Welcome to our first newsletter!

Hello everyone, and welcome to the first Inwood House newsletter of 2021. We are pleased to share with you all the latest news and information from Inwood House. We also want to wish you all a Happy Valentine’s, and hope you are all staying safe.

Family Members Introduction
Our home manager Sue Garnett would like to pass on her thanks to all family members who participated in the telephone conversations to introduce herself.
Sue has worked in care for the last 21 years and has managed services for the last 8 years. Sue has helped other care homes in their improvement. We are excited to have Sue on board to help make Inwood House the best it can be.

Staff
Sue Garnett has agreed to take up the post of Registered Manager. Sue has sent in her application
and is waiting on an interview date. We would also like to add that Helen Tiffany left her role as Deputy Manager at the end of December. We wish Helen all the best and thank her for her service.
Kelly Moxon has since been promoted to the role of Deputy Manager. Please join me in congratulating Kelly on her promotion. Kelly has worked at Inwood House for 20 years and began her career as a care assistant. Kelly was then promoted to a senior care assistant before being our new Deputy Manager.
We would also like to welcome to the Inwood House team:
• Ann Ginnelly – senior care assistant
• Ciaran O’se – night care assistant
• Rebecca Kelly – domestic assistant
• Aisah Iqbal – care assistant.
We are pleased to have you all on board!

COVID & Visiting
We would like to pass on our thanks to Orchard Croft Medical Centred for arranging to come out to the home in all their PPE to provide our COVID vaccinations. Even with the first round of vaccinations being conducted there is no change in the visiting policy at present as the Government Guidance on visiting has not changed.
It is unlikely the visiting policy will not be changed until the second doses have been issued and after the current lockdown restrictions are lifted. We are constantly reviewing the guidance and as soon as there is any change, we will let everyone know.
The new virus variants remain a very high risk and we do not yet know how effective the current vaccines are against the new strains of the virus.
Thank you to all relatives and friends for their patience and understanding regarding this.

COVID Testing Update
We are continuing to carry out COVID tests on staff weekly and our residents are still tested once a month.
Staff also have two LFD (Lateral Flow Device) tests weekly. These tests produce a result in thirty minutes. As Inwood House
Februar y 2021 Newsletter
of writing the home is currently COVID free. However, if there are any positive cases, we will continue to notify you of these.

Visiting Pod

We are excited to introduce the following plan depicting the idea of a visiting pod at Inwood House. As you may know this will be in the reception area. This plan is in action and we look forward to sharing more about this development in the coming weeks. Please let us know your thoughts.

Social Media
The Inwood House Facebook page is now being updated by Kelly and in the weeks to come you will see more activity. We look forward to sharing all the exciting activities and events that we have planned.

Activities & Events

Coming up we are celebrating:

  • Wave all your fingers at your neighbour Day on 7th Feb – On this day will be getting our fingers wiggling to celebrate this quirky day!
Chinese New Year on 12th Feb – Chinese style nibbles will be on offer this evening for our residents to sample.
  • Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday on 16th & 17th Feb – We’ll be testing our residents pancake flipping skills!
  • National Drink Wine Day on 18th Feb – Need we say more?!
  • National Chocolate Mint Day on 19th Feb – We’ll be celebrating with After Eights through to Matchmakers to enjoy all sorts of minty chocolatey treats
  • World Thinking Day on 22nd Feb – We will be contemplating on this day and providing mindful activities to be aware of our thoughts and feelings.
  • Tortilla Chip Day on 24th Feb – Plenty of chips and dip will be served up to our residents today.
  • Carnival Day on 26th Feb – We will be celebrating in sparkly feathery style on this day. Think of a traditional Carnival held in Rio de Janeiro or the Caribbean. We will be helping our residents get into the Carnival experience by designing and making their own headdresses. A Caribbean inspired punch bowl will also be on offer.

You Said We Did
This month we introduced a monthly residents meeting. This gave the management team chance to catch up with our residents and find out what we can do for them. They’ve asked for:

  • Coffee & Cake afternoon on Tuesday
  • Music & Dancing afternoon on Wednesday
  • Cheese & wine tasting on Friday.

We have implemented these and the events will begin from next week.

Person Centred Software (PCS)
Plans for this are well underway. This will alleviate the need for paper-based care plans. All our care staff will be given a handheld device to keep track of your loved ones needs. This system will bring us up to date and we can’t wait to give this a try. If you’d like to read more information on this software, you can visit the following link:
